WBDC offers a broad array of programs and services to both the small business owner and entrepreneur who are interested in entrepreneurial education, promotion of their small business, personal financial education, and personal and professional development. WBDC offers personalized client assessments and develops an action plan based on their business development goals.

 

WBDC helps clients increase productivity, maximize preparation, earn money, and continue to achieve their personal and professional business dreams.
 

Entrepreneurial Training

WBDC’s small business training and counseling educates, empowers and guides the aspiring, emerging and established entrepreneur throughout their small business venture.
 
  • Information Sessions and Walk-in Days
    Participants meet with WBDC counselors to present their ideas and are directed to the WBDC training programs and services or other community service that best meets their needs. Information Sessions are conducted in a group setting. Walk In Days “no appointment necessary” provide one-on-one sessions at a WBDC site. Both programs offer counseling and a complimentary assessment.
  • Exploring Entrepreneurship
    This free workshop offers aspiring business owners insight into what is needed to start a business. Participants take a critical view of their idea/vision, investigate its feasibility, and write a preliminary concept statement—taking the first step to turn an idea into a reality
  • FastTrac® New Venture
    Power-packed weekly workshops designed for aspiring entrepreneurs. Participants take the first steps in the Business Planning process by developing their business plans and learning research skills they can apply to the workplace or any future business venture. FastTrac grads gain a network of entrepreneurial peers, valuable mentor relationships and a library of business reference materials.
  • FastTrac® Growth Venture
    A series of comprehensive workshops designed for business owners who have been operating for a year or more with a focus on conducting an in-depth analysis of their businesses and writing individual plans to address present and future needs.
  • One-on-One Business Counseling
    Practical hands-on guidance on critical issues facing today’s small businesses; including but not limited to the areas of marketing, finance and insurance, human resources, legal issues and taxes.
  • Small Business Seminars
    Pertinent seminars hosted throughout the state on topics including: QuickBooks, Public Speaking, Constant Contact, Access to Capital, Website Development, Intellectual Property, Social Media, Women-Owned Business Certification, Newsletter Writing and CT Certification. Seminars are conducted in the classroom and via Webinars and Teleclasses.
  • Hands-on Marketing Series
    The objective is to create a practical marketing plan to grow your small business. Instructors provide relevant guidance on how to promote your business and drive sales. Participants come away with a clear direction and a manageable plan for implementing future marketing initiatives.
  • Business Sustainability/Access to Capital Counseling
    WBDC counselors work one on one with clients to review their current business condition, develop an action plan on how to move forward to either maintain or build their business. Strategic focus is placed on methods and strategies to secure funds needed to start and expand a business as well as reviewing and critiquing business plans. One on one sessions provide assistance with topics such as obtaining funding, revitalizing credit lines or fine-tuning a business plan.
  • Internet Training
    Clients work one-on-one with a WBDC counselor to learn how to establish a free email account; send and receive email messages; set up an address book, send attachments and basic online techniques and business etiquette.

Personal Financial Education

Budget Coaching
Personal financial coaching tailored to individual needs and goals for the purpose of creating a stable financial future and improved quality of life. Components of the program include: Budget Coaching, Seminars and Long-term Financial Coaching addressing credit related issues, increasing personal wealth and saving for long-term goals.
 
Seminars
WBDC clients interesting in learning more about personal finances can attend a variety of workshops that cover topics such as: Credit, Retirement Planning, Saving for Education and Personal Budgeting, Money Management Skills.
 
Professional Development

Workshops and one-on-one career coaching and counseling for those who are unemployed or who are willing to explore other professional avenues in order to reach their career goals.
  • Focus Coaching sessions to discover ones true potential, identify skills and define goals for a practical action plan.
  • Career and Professional Development Counseling provides guidance and insight on resume updating, interviewing, networking techniques and the use of technology throughout the job search process.
 
Customized Training
WBDC also offers private workshops, customized to meet the needs of our audience, whether it is a social service provider, employer, church, school, or other community-based organization.
 
WBDC works with a variety of non-profit and for profit organizations to design or enhance their program offerings. Our personalized approach respects each organization’s unique mission, “personality” and culture and our services are tailored to meet the specific needs of each constituency.   From customized long term classroom training to one-on-one business and financial coaching, WBDC replicates successful curriculum models, designs customized programs and materials and provides consultation for building results based initiatives.
